Élan létal - dignified dying deserves devotion
2018/2019

mentored by Prof. Justus Theinert

Most people die in the hospital or in care homes. But to die in such a place is not dignified at all. Humans get older and older and a location, where they can put a graceful end to their life, will be one of the most important questions for our society. My draft is located on a lake shore close to a forest area and is divided into three parts: the secular building, the sacral building and the path between them. The secular building is prepared for all worldly needs. It hosts a dining room for eating and mourning, a bathroom to groom and a kitchenette to prepare simple foods or tea. The path starts with high walls, which turn into a lavish path. Its shape underlines the transition from a cosmic order to a chaotic void. The aesthetic of the sacral building is defined through its resolution. The brass legs create a construction, which is aspiring and communicate a feeling of lightness. They are inspired by reed, organ pipes and halos of christian sculptures. The reddish colour of the overstratched glas surface should create a womblike caring atmosphere. I also designed sketchly the interior of the whole complex, but my main focus was on the architecture and the procedure of the ceremony.
