This collection derives from two main inspirations. First, Anicca describes the concept of Buddhism that everything in this universe is in a state of constant change. Second, vanitas-still-life paintings from the Barock era had a similar approach to existence; it
is impossible to escape from time and life changes. Annica Vanitas consists of objects often depicted in traditional Vanitas paintings, but they underline the beauty of impermanence. A flower is especially beautiful as its life is fragile and short. Through the reflection of the flowers, we can understand the impermanence of our own life and its value. From a material standpoint, each object shows polished brass (which won’t change) and satin-finished brass, which will create a beautiful patina over time.
